On Your Way to Success? Get Organized!

Many of us have big dreams of owning new businesses, losing tons of weight, making lots of money, and becoming famous

dancing in our heads. We are  determined and dedicated to getting it done, but then we recognize all that is involved. Yet, we never lose hope and are dedicated to tackling each aspect necessary for claiming success. After taking a quick perusal of our goal’s requirements, we draft a plan and quickly start on track. And then things start to go wrong. You recognize that you routinely forget your bottle of water before your morning jog. Your spending journal got left behind in your other purse and you are constantly forgetting who you needed to call to confirm that business meeting.

Don’t feel bad. It happens to the best of us. The truth is the road to success requires a bit of sacrifice, determination, and organization. While many have no problem mastering the first two requirements, they seem to fall behind in the organization department. There is no way you can keep track of your meetings, diet requirements, and important tasks without a little bit of organization. Trust me. I tried it and it didn’t work. So because I want all of you to succeed, I decided to let you in on a few products and strategies that have helped keep me organized on the right track towards success…

Stickies on Desktop or actual Stickies – You all know how I love using post-it notes to lift my spirits and remember motivational quotes, but what you didn’t know is that I love it for keeping track of tasks, bills to pay, etc. I usually leave them on my refrigerator or computer screen. From time to time, they’ll pop up in my wallet to remind of things. For the high-tech people, you can utilize the popular Stickies program for Mac. It allows you to type up notes and “stick” them to your desktop. You can stick them according to priority and  they dissappear as the task is completed.

Spending Tracker 1.3.1 MH Riley Ltd – We’ve all heard that having a spending journal can totally transform your financial situation. It starts out well, but then you soon find yourself forgetting to enter in a purchase when you get home or lose the receipt before you get to record it. The Spending Tracker app gets rid of that problem completely because it’s right on your phone! It allows you to record entire purchases, categorize, enter bills, and make memos for each expense by month. The best part is that you get a pie graph showing you exactly where your money is going once you turn your phone sideways! It’s amazing.

Dry Erase Calendar  – Keeping track of bills is difficult. No matter how good you are with money, it can be bit a of a challenge to stay on top of the student loan bills, mortgage, electric bill, car payments etc. And if you are like me, you probably hate making those “automatic payments” in which the company connects to your bank account. That’s why I like to use dry erase calendars to track payments. I keep it right on my refrigerator, that way I can’t miss it.

Miche Bag:  Ladies, how many times have you switched purses to match an outfit only to realize you forgot to switch your planner along with it? Or maybe it was some other important object needed for the day… Miche bags eliminate that problem. There is no need to switch purses completely for the purpose of fashion, because the Miche bag allows you to switch the outside appearance of them! Simply swatch the outside “shell” to match your outfit of choice. Now you no longer have to worry about forgetting your precious planner, cell phone, etc. in your other bag all in the name of fashion. The Miche bag is all you need!

Flexi File Organizer – Having a file folder for each important document isn’t enough. You’re bound to confuse placements of each file, and lose them. Plus, separate files folders usually result in more clutter. Instead, invest in a flexi-file organizer to keep all your important documents categorized in the same place. Things will never get misplaced, and you will be more inclined to take important documents when needed if it’s in an accessible and easy to carry file such as this.

What ways do you stay organized as you work towards success?

15 Reasons Why You Should Pursue Your Dreams

So not but a few days ago, I was welcomed with a burst of inspiration. I wanted to write a column. Not just any column. A column about culture and education that will be syndicated in newspapers around the country. I’d be the Carrie Bradshaw of my generation, only I’d have columns and books about things of substance. And than it dawned on me. Carrie Bradshaw is a fictional character. What makes me think my life and dreams would pan out to be anywhere close to the made-up life of Carrie Bradshaw? I don’t have the wardrobe. I don’t have the resources she has access to. And I sure as hell don’t have the money she has. The reasons why it couldn’t happen were endless. But then I remembered my favorite words. The words I mention on this blog post repeatedly. You can’t fail if you don’t quit.

Time and time again, our minds are filled with inspirations and goals that could change our lives forever. Then shortly after, our minds are then clouded with doubt from within ourselves and those around us. Each doubt that pops into your mind is another reason why you should let your dreams die and go on with your life as though nothing happened. That would be the easy thing to do. Just give up. The hard thing to do is to pursue it like your life depended on it. Ignore every doubt that pops into your mind because for every doubt you can come up with there is an even better reason for you to follow your hearts desire. Here’s 15 to get you started.

1. You just might succeed.

2. If it’s something you want, you will find a way to make it happen.

3. Not trying is worse than wondering “what if” for the rest of your life.

4. You are enough. You have enough. You do enough.

5. It’s never to late to be what you might’ve been.

6. You’re already struggling. You might as well take the leap and struggle for something you love.

7. You’re going to be really pissed if someone takes your idea and runs with it.

8. If anything, the experience will at least make you wiser.

9. You’ll have a cool story to tell your kids in the future.

10. It’s only impossible because you said it is.

11. You’ll learn a lot about yourself in the process.

12. You’re smarter than you think and stronger than you seem.

13. It will give you great material for a book one day.

14. Excuses are never tolerated.

15. There is always hope.

How I Stopped Being a Loser

So far this year, I’ve modeled for a show on The Knot, met Kim Coles, chosen a wedding dress, worked with new clients, won $10, and covered a huge fashion event in NYC. And it’s only the first week of March! I can assure you 2011 was nothing like this for me. (That quarter life crisis is no joke!) So how did I make the change from loser to winner? I simply told myself to stop being a loser.

Now I’m sure many of you have fallen on hard times at some point in your life and have said the same thing to yourself. The trick to making that little phrase work is actually believing it. And if you don’t mean it, tell yourself to stop being a loser several times until you start to believe it. That means getting out of self-pitty mode, dedicating yourself to finding happiness, taking risks, and taking advantage of all opportunities. And that’s exactly what I did. I’ve learned that sometimes we are so afraid of losing that we completely ignore the opportunities that are presented to us. And then when nothing good happens to us, we inadvertently become “losers”. Stop living in fear and let life happen.

I’m sure people would like to think that I stopped being a loser and all those wonderful things happened to me because I got lucky. In all honesty, I made them happen and you can to. Once I attributed 2012 as the best year of my life, I was determined to make it happen. So I took that risk of applying to model on The Knot and I took that risk of covering the NYC fashion event. I even took the risk of buying that lottery ticket that got me $10. Sure maybe it was pure luck that all of these situations turned out favorably. But the point is they happened because I put myself out there and took a risk. If you don’t let life happen, nothing will ever happen to you. There were those times when I did take a chance and felt like a loser. However, I learned in every loser-like situation there is a learning opportunity. Being happy and successful is a choice. Nobody ever accomplished anything great by staying in their comfort. There is a winner inside everyone. All you have to do is find it…
